Viran ran a workshop for the procurement unit of HUS Helsinki University Hospital at its Spring Procurement Day on 22 May 2026. HUS is one of Finland's largest public buyers. Procurement director Timo Martelius opened the day and introduced its themes.
Generative AI is arriving in public procurement from both directions at once. Contracting authorities are looking at where it can help prepare and quality-assure a tender before it goes out. Suppliers are already using it to find the right opportunities and to draft their responses.
That raises the same practical questions for everyone involved: what these tools are genuinely good at, where judgement has to stay with people, and how to use them in a process that must remain fair, documented and open to scrutiny.
The workshop was a chance to work through those questions with a buyer that runs procurement at scale. Viran builds for both sides of the table.
